Coppename Estuary Reserve

The foundations for the Coppename nature reserve have been laid in 1966. This area is located on the coast of the Coppenameriver in the district Saramacca.

With its 100 square kilometers, it is known for its housing of various types of herons and many other birds.  This is also Suriname’s only Ramsar site. It is of international importance for migratory shorebirds.
